At Bergen Dermatology specialists we understand that every person deserves a personalized treatment plan geared to their unique facial features that with time and the natural aging process will change. Fillers are used to smooth out “smile lines” and vertical lip lines around the nose and mouth, define cheekbones, reduce tear trough, volumize lips, and fill in other creases of the face. Fillers help to restore volume where needed and enhance certain facial features reestablishing smooth, youthful looking skin without surgery.
Dermal Fillers
Fillers are smooth gels made from substances naturally found in the body and when placed under the skin they help to plump the skin just under its surface. As you get older you lose hyaluronic acid (HA), which causes the skin to lose volume thus forming wrinkles and folds. At our office we use the JUVÉDERM® collection of fillers which is made from hyaluronic acid (HA), a natural substance in the skin that delivers nutrients, helps the skin retain moisture and softness, and adds volume. Each product in the JUVÉDERM® collection of fillers is made from a modified form of HA, these are the most commonly used fillers. Over time, some fillers work to stimulate the body to produce collagen naturally.
In addition to the HA class of fillers we also use poly-L-lactic acid based injectables that is a biocompatible material that has a decade-long history of being used safely for a variety of purposes, including threads for surgical stitches called SCULPTRA AESTHETIC®. This filler helps correct wrinkles and folds, particularly the deep, dynamic ones that run from the nose to the lip (nasolabial lines), the lip to the chin (“marionette” lines), and vertically and horizontally across the forehead. The filler is also used to plump up skin depressions caused by scars, thus minimizing their appearance.
SCULPTRA AESTHETIC® works subtly and gradually over time for a more youthful-looking appearance. Unlike hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers, SCULPTRA AESTHETIC® helps stimulate your skin’s own natural collagen production to help restore its inner structure and increase facial volume that has been lost to aging.
